kinsolvingToday, Jocelin and I ate lunch on the UT campus.  In a dorm.  A dorm cafeteria!  What an unexpected treat.  We were taking a few of the college kids back home from church, and they were like, you wanna eat at Kinsolving?  And I was like, how much is it gonna cost me? And they were like, we'll take care of it! So of course we said, if you insist!

It's been 12.5 years since I've sampled the delectable nutriments of Kinsolving, and while there have been quite a few changes in those 12.5 years, alot is still the same.  Let's start with a few differences:

  1. There are hand sanitizers everywhere at the entrances and exits of the cafeteria.  Has this actually decreased the spread of disease?  I would guess not.  I personally believe this is an unneeded expense.
  2. The cafeteria serving section is way remodeled.  As I was looking around for food to eat, one of the kids was like, you look so lost.
  3. There are no food trays.  This accomplishes two things: a) it decreases waste because you are unable to collect large quantities of food at onetime and b) it decreases waist because if you do want to collect the same quantities of food you have to make more trips to the buffet line, which increases exercise.
And now a few similarities:
  1. 1.  It's still not very nutritious.  But should I have expected it to be?  My main entree was Mac and Cheese with Beef.  I tried the "heathier" option - the Vegetarian Riblets - but it looked very much like dookie and probably tasted similar to it as well.  You can see it in the photo below.  (If it's supposed to be a vegetable, why bother trying to make it into a meat?  I just don't understand it.  At all.  I'm perfectly happy eating vegetables.  A note to vegetables - don't be ashamed of who you are.  Just be yourself!)   Other people were eating Waffles covered with Ice Cream (excuse me, Frozen Yogurt), and Scrambled Eggs buried under Nacho Queso.
  2. The food tastes good for, oh, about 4 days.  After that, it's the same old' dorm food every single day for the next 4 years.
  3. There is still a ginormous Asian section in Kinsolving on Sundays after church.  I counted one million Chinese people in our section.  I think it's because the ones who had finished eating were just loitering.
I have included two pictures for your enjoyment.  For those of you who are older like me and Joce, look at these and reminisce about the good ol' days - when we were stupid and didn't have anything important to worry about...

See the dookie in the middle of the plate?

It doesn't get much better than this, even in DQ country.  I got skillz.
