0007 Hey family and friends!

Some of you haven’t heard from me in awhile and I apologize for that.  I was doing good with monthly blogs on our website for a little bit, but have been kind of MIA since last summer.  A lot has happened since then, including my little sister getting married! But the reason I am sending this email is a little heavier than just a monthly update unfortunately.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer this past Monday.  It’s been an emotional roller coaster for Marcus and me since then, but overall we have an amazing sense of peace about it, which we know can only come from God.  We are still trying to figure out the details of my treatment, but what we do know is that I will be having surgery in July, radiation after that, and possibly chemotherapy after that.

All of you have touched our lives at some point and we value your friendship to us.  For these reasons, we felt the need to share this part of our lives with you.

To our friends and family who know Christ personally as their Lord and Savior, I covet your prayers!  Please pray that Marcus and I would:

  1. Understand more fully what it means to fellowship in Christ’s suffering - Philippians 3:10
  2. Continue to give glory to Him and thank Him for all the blessings He has given us even in the midst of this storm – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
  3. Continue to trust that God is in complete control and that He has a perfect plan for us – Romans 8:28

To our friends and family who don’t yet know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, I pray that you would:

  1. Consider following my story to see that it is only through a personal relationship with the God of the universe that we can have hope and joy in the midst of struggles in this life
  2. Not feel sorry for me, because I don’t feel sorry for myself  J
  3. Know that I am grateful to have this suffering in my life because I know it is making me a better person and more like Jesus Christ, who died to save us from our own sinfulness
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”  James 1:2-4

“And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.  Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”  Romans 5:2-4

Marcus and I truly believe these verses in the bible and feel privileged that God would choose us to go through this trial. Thanks for your friendship to us.  We know that we will not be going through this alone and we thank you all in advance for your love and support.

I plan to post updates on Jocelin’s Corner on our website (“plan” is the key word), so feel free to check in with us at www.hsiafamily.com to see our journey unfold.

We love you and appreciate all of you!
Jocelin & Marcus

Jocelin and Marcus, Our delay of response has only been due to a virus running
in our family....we've been praying for you both continually. We kneel to our
LORD who, as WesleyGrant says, is ALMIGHTY! We will watch for Him. We love you
both. Thank you for your example already to all of us.
love, the stewarts

My sweet Joc-
We are deeply saddened to have just learned of your illness.
Lyman and I will keep you both close in our thoughts and in our prayers. With a
faith as strong as yours and Marcus I know you are both strong enough to endure
the emotional and physical struggles that lie ahead. Lyman and I both feel that
God puts us here to learn and serve. We lift you both up and pray that this
journey will be a short one. We love you--please keep in touch. 512-636-5053
