My Second Blog Ever - Secret PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 03 August 2005 18:00

Now that I've told you that I'm not blogging for the purpose of other people's entertainment, I decided that I'm not going to tell anyone about it. I'll just blog every once in a while when I feel like it, and maybe over time if people happen to notice, that's cool. If not, no big deal. After all, this thing is for me - for me to jot down my thoughts and ideas. How about this: I won't even tell my wife about this blogging idea and see how long it takes her to notice. I'm almost certain that the only way for her to find out is if someone else who has read this blog tells her about it.

Will blogging make me a better writer? I've never been able to write well, and I've always admired those people who can write intelligently, creatively, and with wit and humor. Because that would be really cool...

My First Blog Ever - Blogging PDF Print E-mail

I know - the blog thing is nothing new. It's been around for a really long time now, but I've never tried it. I still don't understand it. What's the point? Is it so I can communicate with other people without REALLY communicating with them? Is it so I can communicate with a bunch of people (who would care to know by coming to this website and reading) efficiently, and without the fear of rejection? That's why I never started (before today). Because it didn't make sense to me. It seemed like the only real purpose of the blog is to have a public journal - but the thing is - WHO CARES? I know I don't care about other people's blogs, so why should they care about mine? I've never read someone else's blog before, so I certainly don't expect anyone to read mine.

By this logic, the only way I can justify spending the time to "blog" is to tell myself that it's an easy way for me to journal my thoughts. Experts say it's good to do that. Ministers say the same thing. That way, a year from now, or 5 years from now, you can look back and see how you've changed and how God has worked in your life. I'll buy that.

Plus, journaling is certainly easier when you can type it out rather than write it out. Cause handwriting stuff sucks. It takes too long, you can't read it, and then you lose it. And you can't change it. There's no "backspace," which I've already used 153 times in these few paragraphs.

So those are the reasons I'll give "blogging" a shot. Who knows? Maybe it will last a week, maybe not even that long. Or it could change my life. Hey, maybe the word "journaling" won't exist in a few years. Maybe it will be replaced by the word, "blogging." What do you think?
